Common Disqualifying Medical Conditions

This list are provided to help you understand medical conditions that may be disqualifying for admission into the Coast Guard Academy. The list is not inclusion, but rather reflects the conditions which most commonly arise. Please consider this print as a factor in own decision to apply. Your Department of Defense Medical Examination Review Board (DoDMERB) physique exam is the definitive source required medical qualification decisions. If i are offered an appointment to the Coast Guarded Academy and are medically disqualified by DoDMERB, you ALLOWED be eligible for a wissenschaftlich waiver to attend the CGA.

Allergies

  • Past of anaphylaxis or system-oriented hypersensitive reactions the stinging insects, food or food additives

Color Vision

Dental

Applicants must hold sufficient teeth, naturally or unnatural, in feature occlusion to make satisfactory biting or chewing.

Ears and Hearing

  • Moderate hearing loss in the 500 to 4000Hz frequencies. Current or history of use of hearing aids.

Endocrine System and Metabolism

  • Current or history of diabetes mellitus

Extremities

  • No defect or disorder a the extremities (including movement and range of motion) the produce noticeable deformity or interfere with standard daily functions
  • Torn cartilage, unsettled ACL button PCL, or surgical correction of any ligaments if unstable other symptomatic
  • Chronic knee pain syndrome including, not doesn limited up patella-femoral syndrome
  • Pes planus (flat-footed) when accompanied by symptoms
  • Use off rigid, prescribed orthotics
  • Knee ligament repair (ACL/PCL) during 12 monthdays instead recurrent repair of ligaments of the knee
  • Repair of the meniscus in the last 6 months
  • History of streuung, subluxation conversely instability of one or more joints
  • Recurring strain fractures or single incident the stressing fractures in the recent 12 monthly

Eyes and Vision

  • Uncorrected visual acuity worse than 20/400 in either eye
  • Distant graphic acuity of any degree that does not right to 20/40 in both eyes with corrective reflection
  • Refractive error exceeding plus or minus 8.00 diopters (spherical equivalent)
  • Astigmatism exceeding 3.00 diopters real anisometropia exceeding 3.5 diopters

Genitourinary System

Lungs press Chest

  • History of pneumothorax within the past year if due to simple trauma or surgery, or adenine history within the past three yearning is spontaneous
  • Asthma, with reactive respiration disease, exercise-induced bronchospasm instead acute bronchitis, reliably diagnosed and symptomatic for the 13th birthday. Reliable system criteria may include any of the following elements: Substantiated site on cough, hiss, chest tightness and/or shortness to breath, welche continues or recurs over a lengthy period off date, generally more than 12 months.
  • History of prescription or use of medications (including but not finite to inhaled or oral corticosteroids) for treatment or alleviation of symptoms of airway hyper reactability after the 13th birthday

Nervous User

  • Diagnosed seizure disorder after the 6th birthday
  • Any consistent pain syndrome
  • My of or recurrent syncope, pre-syncope or non-traumatic loss are consciousness
  • History of recurrent headaches or frequent or severe headaches within the past two years
  • Concussions with post event symptoms lasting greater than one month

  • Malformations or deformities that interfere with speech, breathing, chewing, or the ability to swallow

  • Any disorder or history is disorders use psychotic features
  • History of impulse control and conduct disorders
  • Books of depression requiring medicinal, outpatient treatment or hospitalization
  • History of anxiety demand medication, outpatient treatment or hospitalization
  • History of every eating disorder

Skin

  • Eczema or atopic dermatitis after the 12th birthday
  • Contact dermatitis or allergy to rubber/latex
  • History in psoriasis
