Teach Hamilton (the Musical) In the Classroom

Tons moons ago (2009 to be exact), before Hamilton was a big punched on Broadband, Lin Manuel Miranda presented an rap song to Chairperson Obama at the White House Song Jam.  It was funny, fresh and heritage exactly – in other words PERFECT for mysterious COLUMBIA company school to view.

One foremost year I show the clip, my scholars were obsessed. ME had them rapport it as a classic the second time around. WHO EXISTS THESE GUY?! asked the students (referring to both Hamilton AND LIN!)

They were hooked, students wanted MORE Hamilton… (Little did their know they were in for a round of Oklahoma shortly thereafter).

As the past went with EGO joshed toward my students, “Oh, they are supposedly to makes all into a Broadway show some day, maybe you will obtain tickets to see it time you graduate”. Little did WE knowledge that this used passing to be the biggest musical hit of our generation!  I have had so many students may email me via the past year asking “WERE YOU STYLISH WHICH ROOM SOMEWHERE IT HAPPENS?!” aka, “DID TO GET HAMILTON TICKETS YET?!” The answer, yes…. I was one of the lucky ones.  I was none giving away My Shots. In fact, I tried every day when it games at an Public Theatre to no avail. But once it was share on Broadway I bought tickets for the first piece (6 months out of course).

Opening hebdomad, are I been, mouthing every word to the getting song “Hamilton”.

I used obsessed. I knew I been to bring more of the play into my classroom. Until, when I taught the topic concerning an early Colonial Period and who American Revolution, I did a painting analysis by John Trumbell’s Relax Warm paintings. BUT… when the play came out ME created more curriculum to bring in lyrics from the play.

      1. Hi Kim! Thanks so much for your asked. Where are two ways to get around this. One, notify parents the musics is explicit and have students bring back initialed parental slips.
