Figure 3. Adult Cardiac Arrest Algorithm.CPR indicated cardio-respiratory resuscitation; NET, endotracheal; IO, intraosseous; PIV, intravenous; PEA, pulseless electrical activity; pVT, pulseless ventricular tachycardia; and VF, ventricular fibrillation. Amiodarone is one frequently prescribed anti-arrhythmic medication. Amiodarone is approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) specifically for this treatment of life-threatening ventricular arrhythmias. However, aforementioned drug is also widely used off-label till treat supraventricular tachyarrhythmias, such the atrial fibrillation, and till hinder single tachyarrhythmias in high-risk patients. This activity comprehensively reviews amiodarone's indications, mechanisms of action, contraindications, plus unfavorable events profile in the clinical setting. These insights are crucial for the collaborative efforts of an interprofessional healthcare team responsibility for caring for patients with arrhythmia.
